Once your child has learned all about our author Donald Crews, they will participate in completing a culminating project that corresponds to the knowledge he or she has gained during the author study. The purpose of this project is to show what the students have learned about Donald Crews. The students are going to be creating their very own book using the writing style of Donald Crews!
During our author study, we will read a very large variety of books written by Donald Crews. The students will become familiar with the style of writing that Donald Crews obtains. The students will learn that throughout Donald Crews' books, the pictures are very vivid and colorful. The students will also see that although the stories are simple and to the point, they come to life!
For this project, students will be given blank booklets that they will turn into a creative story of their own written in the style of writing they have observed during this month's author study. The students will be assigned a book title, and be asked to come up with a simple story in a way they believe Donald Crews would write it. Examples of book titles the students will be given could include: Road Trip, Summer, Submarine, etc.
Once the students have finished creating their books, they will each read them aloud to their classmates. They will get the chance to share their creative stories that they have put together, Donald Crews style! :)
